CrowdStrike Upgraded to Buy as the ARR Trigger Fires

CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.CRWDReports

CrowdStrike moves from Watchlist to Buy following second-quarter fiscal 2027 results. Shares closed at $189.18 before the print and rose roughly 11% in extended trading.

Reasons to be cautious

  1. The valuation is still the weakest part of the case. Enterprise value sits at 32 times guided full-year revenue and the forward free cash flow yield is 0.86%. Better than the 35 times of a week ago, but expensive in absolute terms.

  2. The bear case needs nothing operational to go wrong. It requires only that a 32 times multiple become a 20 times multiple, something growth software has done twice in five years.

  3. Capital allocation shifted. The company spent $881.4 million on acquisitions year to date against $175.6 million of buybacks, at a business whose organic growth is the entire investment case.

  4. At roughly $210 in extended trading, the shares are already at the new $214 fair value. The upgrade is actionable on weakness, not at the open.

Reasons the caution is now overdone

  1. Net new annual recurring revenue hit a record $332.8 million, and full-year net new ARR growth guidance was raised by 630 basis points to 34% at the midpoint. The 20 August report named net new ARR above $300 million plus an upward revision to ARR guidance as the specific condition for an upgrade. Both were met, and by a wide margin.

  2. Falcon Flex answers the bundling argument with contracts. Flex ending ARR doubled to $2.29 billion, 935 accounts were added, and Chief Executive George Kurtz said the ten largest deals of the quarter by value were all Flex. Consolidation is running toward Falcon rather than away from it.

  3. Profitability improved on every line. Revenue rose 26% to $1.47 billion, non-GAAP operating margin expanded 300 basis points to 25%, operating cash flow rose 59% to $530.3 million, and GAAP net income turned positive at $5.3 million against a $70.2 million loss a year ago.

  4. Kurtz called it the best quarter in the company’s history and framed the driver plainly: mass-market acceptance that AI adoption needs security. Finance chief Burt Podbere credited the Flex structure with winning bigger and longer contracts.

The rating changes because a condition set in writing was met. It is a Buy on evidence rather than on a discount, sized as a starter position with a $166 stop.
