AMD Moves From Hold to Watchlist as the Rally Outruns Value

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.AMDReports

Advanced Micro Devices now carries a Watchlist rating, down from Hold. Part of the change is simple: the site no longer uses a Hold rating. The larger part is substance. Since the 18 September report at $545.09, the shares have climbed 13.0% to $615.73 at the 1 October close, after touching a 52-week high of $639.00 on 25 September. Over the same stretch the 10-year Treasury yield rose about 30 basis points to 5.24%. That pairing is exactly what the previous report named as grounds for a downgrade.

Weighted fair value slips to $525 from $531, leaving the stock about 17% above it and priced at roughly 52 times the report’s 2027 earnings estimate of $11.77. The score falls to 65 out of 100 from 69, with valuation down to 3 from 4, risk down to 3 from 4 and the technical reading down to 6 from 7.

The bull case: $660

The optimistic scenario, weighted at 33%, values the shares at $660, just 7.2% above today’s price. The business news is supportive: on 30 September HPE announced a $1.2bn order from Vultr for AMD Helios racks. The base case, carrying 47% of the weight, sits at $530, below the market.

The bear case: $290

The downside scenario, weighted at 20%, puts value at $290, a 52.9% fall. A few percent of upside in the best case against a halving in the worst is what keeps the stock out of buying territory. Rising yields sharpen that risk, because most of the value rests on earnings from 2027 onward. The Federal Reserve raised rates on 16 September and meets again on 27 and 28 October.

Where World Labs fits

On 28 September AMD agreed an all-stock deal for World Labs worth about $8.2bn. Fei-Fei Li is set to become executive vice president and chief scientist, and closing is expected by the end of 2026. The report estimates it trims 2027 earnings per share by roughly 1.5% to 2.4%. It nudges value down rather than reshaping the case.

Why not Avoid?

Business quality rules it out. The doubt is about the price, not the company. The stock becomes interesting again at $472 or below, which restores a 10% margin to weighted fair value. First support sits around $510, where the 50-day and 100-day moving averages meet.

The next markers are the OCP keynote on 12 October, the Fed meeting later that month and third-quarter results, expected around 3 November, although AMD has not yet announced the date.

The scenario weights, the World Labs analysis and the updated levels are laid out in the full Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) report, available on our Reports page.
