Updated

Rated Watchlist, with a fair value of $70.33 against a last close of $68.69 (+2.4% implied upside). A clean third quarter with a 34.6% margin was overshadowed by a softer Q4 guide, a cut 2026 ad target and management conceding that US viewing growth lags; fair value is about $70 and the name becomes interesting near $60.

Recent Developments

DateDevelopmentImpact
Peter Rice named Chief Content Officer

The former Disney executive succeeds Bela Bajaria from 26 October.

Reading: Framed by management as an execution change; adds transition risk while viewing growth is the open question.

Medium
2026 ad revenue target cut

About $2.7bn, from about $3bn, on slower ad product rollout and partner integration; ads still growing over 80%. Ad tier to 15 more countries in 2027, starting in March.

Reading: Small in money, about 0.6% of revenue, but it weakens the lever meant to offset slower price-led growth.

Medium
Job cuts of about 6% of staff

Nearly 1,000 roles, mostly in product, technology, legal and HR; about 120bp of Q4 margin cost and 30bp for the year.

Reading: A meaningful saving that management chose not to size for 2027, so only a modest margin gain is assumed.

Medium
European pricing cases

Italy ruling under appeal; Dutch claim of EUR420-673m; cases pending in Germany and Spain. No ruling in the period.

Reading: The cash is manageable; a rule requiring consent for EU price rises would be the larger risk.

Medium
2026 free cash flow outlook cut

About $12.0bn, from $12.5bn, mainly on a Q4 real estate transaction.

Reading: A one-time cash item rather than a change in operating cash generation.

Bear35%$50.25View hours keep lagging, price rises meet more churn, ads stay behind plan and FY27 growth slips below 10%; FY27 EPS about $3.35 at 15x.

The Case

Not at $68.69. Netflix grew Q3 revenue 12% at a 34.6% operating margin and bought back a record $4.8bn of stock, but guided Q4 below consensus, cut its 2026 ad target to $2.7bn and conceded that US viewing growth lags.

The weighted fair value is about $70, so there is no margin of safety before the after-hours fall. The biggest risk is that members pay more without watching more. The view improves near $60 or on a January guide that sizes the job-cut savings and shows double-digit growth with a higher margin.
